Everything you should know about the ProgNova programming contest

Rules

The ProgNova contest rules are based on the standard ICPC rules, with the following adjustments:

  • Participation is by individual.
  • Contest duration is 3 hours.
  • Access to local and online materials is allowed during the contest.
  • Contestants must not communicate or discuss the contest problems with any people during the contest. Sharing materials regarding contest problems is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.
  • There is no scoreboard freeze.

Eligibility

There are two divisions for the contest:

  • North America Division: Open to all currently enrolled students from North American universities.
  • Open Division: Open to everyone else.

Environment

  • Contestants may use any single machine to compete.
  • Solutions are submitted online to the Kattis judging platform. Supported languages are C/C++/Java/Python2/Python3. Please see here for the judging details on the supported languages.

Prizes for North America Division

  • 1st Place receives one $200 Amazon gift card.
  • 2nd Place receives one $125 Amazon gift card.
  • 3rd Place receives one $75 Amazon gift card.
  • 3 lucky awards are drawn randomly from the contestants that solved more than 4 problems. Each winner is awarded a $50 Amazon gift card.
  • 5 lucky awards are drawn randomly from the contestants that solved more than 2 problems. Each winner is awarded a $30 Amazon gift card.
  • Each contestant will receive at most one prize. If a contestant win one of the top 3 places, he/she will not enter any raffle. If a contestant who solved more than 4 problems does not get the $50 award, he/she will enter the raffle for $30 awards.

Prizes for Open Division

  • 2 lucky awards are drawn randomly from the contestants that solved more than 4 problems. Each winner is awarded a $30 Amazon gift card.
  • 3 lucky awards are drawn randomly from the contestants that solved more than 2 problems. Each winner is awarded a $20 Amazon gift card.
  • Each contestant will receive at most one prize. If a contestant who solved more than 4 problems does not get the $30 award, he/she will be included in the raffle for $20 awards.
